Chapter 3
Healthy Communication

“When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen.”

– Ernest Hemingway

Don’t ignore your emotions—manage them

Take a walk, breathe, write.

Start the talk when you’re calm, not boiling.

Ask with curiosity

Try “Can you help me understand?” instead of “Why would you do that?”

Tone changes everything.

Name the feeling

Saying “That sounds frustrating” shows empathy.

Naming emotion reduces tension.

Speak your limits

Boundaries aren’t rude.

They’re how we build respect.

Find what you both care about

Look for overlap, not just opposition.

Shared goals lower the heat.
